Although Sophia's Heart programs are not yet established in every state, we are currently looking for volunteers nationwide that can help with future events as they arise. For those of you looking to get plugged in with volunteering for Sophia's Heart.
Please email our volunteer coordinator,firstname.lastname@example.org for more details. You too can help One Heart Touch Many.
We value our volunteers and their talents. Sophia’s Heart now has opportunities available for everyone at our different locations. Even better, you don’t have to be local to help us.
We know that everyone has different areas of expertise, so to help you better serve us, we’ve provided a detailed list of volunteer tasks for you to choose from. Once you’ve selected the volunteer task(s) you are interested in email your contact information and the Task ID to email@example.com. We will then contact you individually with specific instructions and information. Click the image to download the volunteer task list now.
Being a volunteer not only leaves a lasting impact on those receiving the services, but, it also leaves an impact on the volunteers themselves. At Sophia’s Heart we’d like for our volunteers to share their experience (this is not mandatory). In doing so, after each event, volunteers will be asked to provide feedback or even a short story about the opportunity they chose to help with. The volunteer should include a picture of themselves or of the people that were impacted along with a 1 page (8 ½ x 11) or less story about your experience. We will then post some of these stories under our Volunteer’s Voice section on our web site.
For those wanting to volunteer a completed volunteer application is required before you can participate in any events. If you have not done so already, download the volunteer application now. For more information on volunteer opportunities please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to you helping us become “One Heart Touching Many.”
Volunteering for Sophia's Heart
Established in 2008, Sophia’s Heart was founded by Danny Gokey to create a legacy for his wife Sophia, who passed away at the age of 27, due to a chronic heart condition. She had a passion for helping children and establishing the organization was a way to keep her memory, her passion alive forever! With so many charities and non-profit organizations needing donations and volunteers, Sophia’s Heart Foundation called out to me in a way that no other charitable organization has.
I first became aware of Sophia’s Heart watching Danny Gokey on American Idol. Living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin it was not hard to easily pick Danny as our hometown hero and favorite! Each week we watched and were mesmerized by his amazing voice and talent. Of course, we heard the story of the terrible tragedy of his wife and the story touched my heart in many ways. I wanted to donate; I wanted to help this grieving husband, help keep the memory of his wife alive forever! I felt a connection to Sophia, even though I have never had the opportunity to meet her. Maybe it’s her smile, maybe it’s her passion for helping children, maybe it’s her love and encouragement for her husband to try out for American Idol – or all of those things – I knew she was special and I know why Danny’s love for her is so deep! It was so tragic that she passed away at such a young age and had so much of her life left to live!
I felt compelled to help in any way that I could. As a wife and full-time working mother of two children, my time is limited, but I felt compelled to volunteer whenever I could. Why?? Because Danny truly believes in what he is doing, he truly wants to help people, and I want to help make sure Sophia’s memory stays alive through the work of the organization! I feel good at night knowing that my efforts have helped children in need!
One of my assignments as a Sophia’s Heart Volunteer was to work at the Green Bay Packers game on 12/27/09. My job was to pass out information on Sophia’s Heart Foundation and tell the mission and the story of Sophia’s Heart to 70,000 people walking in the doors at Lambeau Field coming to watch the Packer game. I was standing in front of the doors to the stadium, handing out literature, talking to people walking in and telling them about Danny and Sophia’s Heart. I was happy to tell the story to anyone that would listen, because I truly believe in the goals and mission of the organization. If one person made a donation, then my time was well spent. One heart touching many!
Danny has told the story of his wife Sophia to viewers of American Idol, on the American Idol Tour and on his radio tour. He is passionate about Sophia’s Heart and has a passion for helping people. Danny has touched the lives of so many fans that have reached out to him, told them their own personal stories of tragedy and triumph, he has signed autographs, answered questions, and taken pictures with anyone who has asked. He treats people with love, respect and dignity and you cannot ask for a better role model than that! He is an inspiration to me, my children and to all of his fans around the world! Danny has given so much to everyone, the least we can do is to give back to him is by making a donation or volunteering your time to help support Sophia’s Heart.
