Healing with Music & Arts
| SHF is working towards establishing centers nationwide that combine Music and Arts in a technologically advanced, mainstream and culturally relevant manner. Our hope is to draw in children and youth and begin to address broader family needs as we reach their children. While parents should play the largest part in influencing their children in a positive way, circumstances such as working multiple jobs or long hours, single parent homes and teen parenting (among others) have created situations where children are seemingly raising themselves. Commonly, mainstream forms of media are primary influences for many of these children, and often not in a positive way. Through offering an outlet where children and youth can create what they hear on the radio or see on television, we hope to encourage students to produce positive forms of media, living out their “dreams” of being like what they see and hear. Many are aware of how Danny’s story was brought to the nation via reality television. It was through American Idol that Danny was able to feel a renewed sense of worth while going through the roughest season of his life. In this same light, SHF hopes to use music and arts as a means to offer hope to children who are suffering from poverty, sickness, disease, broken families and broken dreams. | Our programming will include: |

| Many different studies have been conducted over the years that link students involved with music and arts instruction to higher levels of academic achievement in comparison to their peers. Links have also been made between students involved in music programs and success in higher level thinking skills, society, and life. Learn more about music education and it's potential affect on our children. With the extreme emphasis that has been placed on academics in public schools via the No Child Left Behind Act, SHF is pleased to be able to contribute and help children achieve academic success via musical training, in addition to restoring musical dreams in children. | SHF Instrument Program In addition to accepting monetary donations for music and arts, SHF accepts used instruments. Many people often have instruments that lay around their homes for years untouched. We encourage you to dust off that instrument, and give a child the gift of music! Donated instruments will be inspected, and refurbished as needed to ensure quality for our recipients. In cases where an instrument is deemed not up to par with our program standards, they will be used to bring in more money to our program. In every case, instrument donated will be appraised for a monetary value, and receipts will be mailed to donors for tax purposes (every donation is tax deductible). Every instrument counts, donate your un-used instrument today! (Donation can be mailed to P.O. Box 8127 Hermitage, TN 37076-8127) |
