Sophia's Heart is "One Heart Touching Many".  In our short time of existence, we have been able to contribute to helping people and have heard wonderful accounts of how our story has touched and helped others.

Below are stories of hearts that have been touched by SHF contributions:

2009 Sophia L. Gokey Scholarship Recipients:  3 students were awarded scholarships this fall by SHF.  Each has a personal story of overcoming hard situations on the way to pursuing their dreams.  Please click here for more about their individual stories.

SEDA (School for Early Child Development) Contribution: During the first quarter of 2009, SHF made a donation toward the purchase of instruments for SEDA's music program.  Their new music program will be implemented during the 2009-2010 school year.  As the year progresses, we will have more updates as to how the program and the students are progressing.  Thanks to your generous donations, these children will have a musical experience that would not have been possible otherwise.

On January 9th, 2009, Sophia’s Heart provided gifts to a family who had lost their mother in a car accident.  Their mother was leaving her third shift job on Christmas eve 2008,  and walking to her 1st shift job.  She was struck by an SUV and died hours later from internal injuries.  Because of a generous donation from Sophia’s Heart, the children were able to celebrate Christmas with extended family and receive gifts, bringing joy to them in the midst of their tragedy.

During Christmas season of 2008, Sophia’s Heart was able to restore a family, and bring them back together under one roof in time for the holidays.  As a working mom who was also studying at medical school, Miriam was doing everything she could to provide for her family while working toward a better future.  Because her landlord failed to keep her apartment building up to code, her family along with others, was forced to move out.  Having no place to stay with her 5 children, she was forced to move in with her neighbor, who didn’t have enough space for all of them.  Her children had to be split up and sent to different homes.  Sophia’s Heart provided financial assistance toward a new apartment for Miriam, allowing her and her children to move into a new apartment together just in time for Christmas.

If you would like to share your personal story with us of how you have been inspired by SHF, please submit it to info@sophiasheart.org.  We will read through them and occasionally place your stories on this page also.
